Presss Release for Holiday Orchestra February 2008 | ||||||||||
Half term musical fun for youngsters Come and join us and have fun making music! – That’s the message from the Colne Valley Training Orchestra, who are running a special 2-day Play for Pleasure Holiday Orchestra for themselves and other aspiring young musicians! This is the twelfth year this popular musical event has been held and young musicians of approximately grades 2 to 5 standard who would like to get a real taste for what it’s like playing in a proper orchestra are invited to join members of the Colne Valley Training Orchestra, which is the junior branch of the well known Colne Valley Youth Orchestra. Beverley Warrrington, Musical Director of the Training Orchestra, urged lots of youngsters to come and have fun playing their instruments with others and making new friends: “This year we have a great variety of music to learn and perform, including many well known pieces”. Beverley is keeping the details of this year’s programme up her sleeve, but in previous years it has included popular tunes such as the theme from Match of the Day as well as some slightly more traditional ones like Offenbach’s Can-Can, the theme from Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Handel’s popular Sarabande, Mendelssohn’s Dance of the Clowns, and Mussorgsky’s Great Gate of Kiev! So if that is anything to go by, this year’s participants are in for a stimulating and fun time. And it’s not just the music that’s fun. “There will be lots of games and quizzes to join in too” said Beverley, who will be joined by Assistant Musical Director Chris Lund. And she added: “This workshop really does provide a wonderful opportunity for young people to play in an ensemble and to experience the excitement of an orchestral concert. Apart from the rehearsing and performing, there will be those quizzes and games – so lots to look forward to!” The 2-day workshop will be held at the Lion Walk United Reformed Church on the Monday and Tuesday of half term – February 11th and 12th, with a concert at 7.30 on the Tuesday evening for everyone’s family and friends to see and hear what their youngsters have been up to.
