Gala Concert September 2008

 

COLNE VALLEY YOUTH ORCHESTRA GALA CONCERT

 

FRIDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 7:30 PM  ST BOTOPLPH’S CHURCH COLCHESTER

 

FREE ADMISSION, RETIRING COLLECTION

 

WORKS BY BIZET, BRAHMS, DVORAK PLUS MUSIC FROM SHOWS AND FILMS

 

The Colne Valley Youth Orchestra, fresh from their tour of Holland in which the orchestra gave concerts in Amsterdam, including the highly prestigiuos venue of the Westerkirk, are giving a special gala concert on Friday 5th September.  The musical director, Nigel Hildreth will be joined on the podium by Jonatha Abbott to conduct a variety of works ranging from Bizet’s lively overture to “Dr Miracle” to the beautiful Dovorak Slavonic Dance, from Kander’s score to “Chicago” to “Themes from 007”.

 

Nigel Hildreth, who has been the musical director of the Colne Valley Youth Orchestra for the past 26 years said “This concert is the highlight of the year for these young performers.  They have worked together during the year , on a residential course and for weekend rehearsals and following their highly successful tour of Holland are playing at their best.”  Concerts in Holland included open air concerts at the Het Bos Theatre and the Zuider Zee Museum at Einkhuisen.

 

The orchestra will be tackling Bizet’s L’Alessienne Suite and Rlph Vaghan Williams Folk Song Suite as well as performing Bartok’s Rumanian Dances.  There is no charge for admission at this event as the orchestra wish to attract a substantial audience and wish to thank the parents for their support during the year.  There will be a retiring collection.
