Teddy Bear’s Picnic Concert Sunday 24th January

The annual Teddy Bears’ Concert in aid of the Mayor’s Charities was extremely successful again this year and was very well attended. The audience was enthusiastic, enjoying the concert immensely and joining in on the percussion instruments with great gusto! The concert was very well supported by everyone, thanks to all who were involved.

Play for Pleasure Holiday Orchestra 15th and 16th February

This year’s holiday orchestra was also very successful. Expertly run by Beverly Warrington and Chris Lund, and ably helped by members of the Main Orchestra. the holiday orchestra was attended by 26 eager and enthusiastic young players. The two days culminated in a concert which was enjoyed by the Mayor and the appreciative audience. The help of the Main Orchestra players and the parent helpers was invaluable to Bev and Chris in making this a pleasure for all.

Rehearsals:

These continue as usual for the Main Orchestra on March 21st and April 25th. Please note that there is a short rehearsal (10 – 1) on May 9th (see ‘Future dates’ list for details)

For the Training Orchestra normal rehearsals recommence on March 21st from 2-4pm and there are further rehearsals on April 25th and May 9th (see ‘Future Dates’ list for details)

Joint TO/MO Concert and Strawberry Tea Sunday 27th June

This year’s joint concert sees a change of venue to The Garrison Officers’ Club, which has plenty of parking. Rehearsal is from 10.00 – 1.00 with the concert starting at 2.30. Concert dress is black skirt/trousers and shoes with blue CVYO t-shirt. Please bring lunch and plenty to drink. Also be aware that changing facilities are very limited at the Garrison Officers’ Club

Main Orchestra Tour Monday 26th – Friday 30th July

This year’s tour is to Ouistreham in Normandy. It is a fantastic opportunity to play abroad and is often the highlight of the year for the players. If you haven’t signed up yet and would like to go please see the details on the website and contact Mike Boddy asap. If you have signed up, a reminder that the next payment of £150 is due on 20th March.

Please note: there will be a pre-tour rehearsal and concert on Sunday 25th July

The rehearsal will run from 10.00 as usual at the Sixth Form College. There will be a parents’ meeting at 2.00 with the concert starting at 2.30. Concert dress will be black and white.

Mercury Fresh Festival August Bank Holiday Weekend

Beverley and Chris are still awaiting the final details in relation to this exciting new event on the Training Orchestra calendar, but please keep the weekend free until they have the specific information.

Gala Concert Saturday 4th September

This will be held as usual in St Botolph’s Church. Details on the ‘Future dates’ list

30th Anniversary Celebrations September 2011

Plans are being forged to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the orchestra; watch this space for details.
