Rehearsals: The last three rehearsals have all been well attended. The Training Orchestra is gradually growing in size much to the delight of the musical directors. Do remember to try to bring a friend along with you. The Main Orchestra rehearsals are progressing well, with the orchestra becoming more familiar with the repertoire. Both orchestras are looking forward to playing at forthcoming concerts. Joint TO/MO Concert and Strawberry Tea Sunday 27th June This year’s joint concert sees a change of venue to The Garrison Officers’ Club, which has plenty of parking. Rehearsal is from 10.00 – 1.00 with the concert starting at 2.30. Concert dress is black skirt/trousers and shoes with blue CVYO t-shirt. TO - please bring lunch and plenty to drink. MO – there will be a short time to go and get lunch. NB There is nowhere to change at the new venue. Publicity photos will also be taken during the morning, so please come ready! Cost for the concert is £6 adults £3 children which includes strawberries and cream, and a drink Main Orchestra Tour Monday 26th – Friday 30th July This year’s tour is to Ouistreham in Normandy. It is a fantastic opportunity to play abroad and is often the highlight of the year for the players. The final payment of £200 is due by June 20th. Please send your cheques (payable to Colchester Youth Orchestra Tour) to Mike Boddy, 175 Lexden Rd, Colchester. CO3 3TE by June 20th at the latest, but sooner if possible as payments to the tour company need to be made before this date. Please note: there will be a pre-tour rehearsal and concert on Sunday 25th July The rehearsal will run from 10.00-1.00 as usual at the Sixth Form College. There will be a parents’ meeting at 2.00 with the concert starting at 2.30. Concert dress will be black and white. Tickets will be £6 adults and £3 children. This concert is supporting Nigel Chapman’s fund for the Moot Hall Organ so please encourage lots of friends and family to come and listen. Mercury Fresh Festival August Bank Holiday Weekend Unfortunately, due to the small number of players who were available to take part in the Festival, the Training Orchestra has had to decline this invitation Gala Concert Saturday 4th September This will be held as usual in St Botolph’s Church. Please note that this is for ALL Main Orchestra players and is the culmination of the year’s work. The concert will be attended by the Mayor. Details on the ‘Future dates’ list. Free to all TO members Open rehearsal Sunday 19th September The Open Rehearsal is an opportunity for new players to try out both the Main Orchestra and the Training Orchestra to see if they would like to join. The Main Orchestra rehearsal runs from 10.00-4.00 with pizza provided at lunchtime. The Training Orchestra rehearsal runs from 2.00-4.00 as usual. If any TO players are thinking of trying out in the MO they should talk to Beverley and Chris in the first instance. Please remember to try to bring a friend along to this rehearsal 30th Anniversary Celebrations September 2011 Plans are being forged to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the orchestra; watch this space for details. The concert will be on Sunday 4th September 2011. Please put the date in your diary NOW! Help Please The CVYO committee has an immediate vacancy for Catering Officer. In September we will need a new Secretary. We also need somebody to help co-ordinate the Holiday Orchestra event that takes place during February half-term.
