Lexden Church Hall

The Moot Hall

Lexden Church itself is about two miles from Colchester town centre, on the corner of Lexden Road and Church Lane. The entrance to the Hall is off Church Lane just past the church. However there is no parking space next to the Hall. You are advised to park a little further along Church Lane on the left. The path up to the Hall is fairly steep. Some parking is also available on the south side of Lexden Road itself.

By bus: services 65,70, 71 and 88 from Colchester Town centre run to Lexden Church

By car:

If coming down the A12 from the north (Ipswich) leave at Junction 26 (the Eight Ash Green Interchange), but at the top of the slip road, turn right, then right again and rejoin the A12, this time heading north. Stay in the left hand lane and take the next exit, Junction 27 (the Spring Lane Interchange). Now you can follow the directions below for those coming up the A12 from the south. (The reason for this seemingly perverse manoeuvre is that there is no exit at Junction 27 for traffic coming from the north!) 

If coming up the A12 from the south (London, Chelmsford), leave at Junction 27 (the Spring Lane Interchange). The long right curving slip road takes you under the A12 to a big roundabout. Take the third exit (i.e. two thirds of the way round the roundabout) and head up the slightly left curving rise which is Cymbeline Way (though you may not see that name). At the T-junction at the top, turn left into Lexden Road. Church Lane is the second (fairly narrow) turning on the right, just a couple of hundred metres down the hill.

The Moot Hall is the grand ceremonial hall which occupies the second floor of the Town Hall in Colchester's High Street. Coming up North Hill past the Sixth Form College, turn left at the lights at the top into High Stree. The Town Hall is a couple of hundred metres along on the left. West Stockwell Street is a turning on the left immediately after the Town Hall. There is no parking in the High Street or in West Stockwell Street, but it is usually possible to stop for a few minutes in either in order to drop off or pick up orchestra members.

The nearest car parks are Nunns Road (access from further down West Stockwell Street) and St Marys (off Balkerne Hill, going down)
