Gala Concert 2009

Brahms, Beatles and Blur at Gala Concert.

Music from Brahms, the Beatles and Blur will be on offer at the Colne Valley Youth Orchestra's annual Gala Concert.

As well as a wonderful range of light classical favourites such as Dvorak's Slavonic Dance and Tchaikowsky's Marche Slave, there will be a Beatles medley and a special arrangement by the well known local composer and CVYO musical director Nigel Hildreth of the pop group Blur's music. A special feature of this year's concert is a solo performance by local musician Janine Plackett , who will be playing a movement of Weber's Clarinet Concerto.

Musical Director Nigel Hildreth, who set up Colne Valley Youth Orchestra nearly 30 years ago, said: "This is a great opportunity to come and see these really  talented young musicians performing. By this stage they have been playing together for a full year and are at their absolute best. The best thing of all is that the concert is absolutely free of charge so all the family can come for a great evening's entertainment."

The concert takes place at St Botolph's Church in Colchester on Saturday, September 5.

There are around 45 members of the Colne Valley Youth Orchestra ranging in age from 12 to 17. From their rehearsal base at Colchester Sixth Form College, they perform a range of public concerts across the year in the local area and abroad and are increasingly in demand  for private engagements.

There will be an Open Rehearsal on September 20 when anyone interested in joining either the CVYO's main or training orchestra's can come along to the Sixth Form College to try out.
