Youngsters make music for charity

The Colne Valley Youth Orchestra prepares for its tour to Normandy by giving a concert at the Sixth Form College on Sunday 25th July at 2:30pm.  The concert is to aid the Moot Hall Organ Fund.  This fund is part of the efforts to raise over £250,000 required to return the magnificent to fully playable condition.

The orchestra, directed by Nigel Hildreth, and assisted by Jonathan Abbott will be giving a programme of a wide variety of works.  These range from a Colchester Concert Overture by the orchestra’s conductor Nigel Hildreth, music from Bizet’s famous opera “Carmen” as well as incidental music from “Peer Gynt” and Beethoven’s Egmont Overture.  As well as these classical items the orchestra will be performing film music from “Raiders of the lost Ark” and music from “Titanic”.

There are around 80 members of the Colne Valley Youth Orchestra, 50 of whom make up the main orchestra, and around 30 in a training orchestra for younger members.  They rehearse once a month at the Colchester Sixth Form College and perform a number of concerts throughout the year.  The orchestra is looking forward to celebrating its 30th year of rehearsing and performing in 2011.

Tickets for theCharity Concert, which begins at 2.30pm can be bought on the door or in advance from Manns Music. They cost £5-00 for adults and £3-00 for under 16s.
