November 2009

Colne Valley Youth Orchestra and Training Orchestra

Open Rehearsal Sunday 20th September

The open rehearsal was a great success for the Main Orchestra with over 50 people attending. There were a significant number of new people and a large number of players who moved up from the Training Orchestra. The pizzas at lunchtime were eaten with great gusto and a really positive and friendly atmosphere was very apparent.

The Training Orchestra numbers were hit hard due to people ‘moving up’ with only 11 members. However there is still a range of instruments and they had a good rehearsal making a great sound.

Rehearsal and AGM Sunday 18th October

The Main Orchestra rehearsal maintained its high numbers from the September rehearsal and progress was made with some of the new music. The Training Orchestra gained a couple of members and continued to make a good sound.

The AGM took place in the Drama Studio at 3.30 and was reasonably well attended. However, there is a need for people to volunteer to help out at events. You don’t need to commit yourself to every event, but help pouring juice, cutting strawberries or taking money would be greatly appreciated.

More urgently, we currently have no catering manager; we will also need a new secretary at the end of this orchestra year when Anne Steward will retire from the post. Mike Boddy has served as Treasure for a huge number of years and would also like to stand down. If anyone feels able to fill any of these vacancies or can offer help for an individual event please contact any of the committee members or ring David Bobby (Chair) on 01206 240057

Oyster Feast Friday October 30th

The orchestra had the great privilege of being invited to play at the Oyster Feast again this year. The guests at the Oyster Feast were very appreciative of the music that they were entertained with and many of the VIPs were extremely impressed. Some of this year’s new music was included in the repertoire and everyone played very well, particularly some of the newer members. Well done!
