Nigel Hildreth (MMus, PGCE), currently Head of Media and Performing Arts at Colchester Sixth Form College, started the CVYO along with a number of other youth and amateur groups. He studied at Sheffield University and has taught music in Essex for over 25 years. He is known locally for his conducting and his compositions, which include two symphonies, two concertos as well as chamber music of many kinds. Jonathan Abbott (BMus, PGCE) is a former member of CVYO (1993-1997 and tour to Prague in 2003!). He studied music at the University in Hull and, after his degree, trained as a teacher and taught music at secondary level in Yorkshire. During this time he conducted Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending with the Hull University Orchestra as well as working as guest conductor with the Hessle Sinfonia in Hull. In the theatre Jonathan appeared in numerous productions, in principal roles as well as in the chorus. In 1999 he became Musical Director of Beverley Operatic Society and conducted Guys and Dolls and Hello Dolly! at the New Theatre, Hull. In 2005 Jonathan returned to the Colchester area to take up the post of Head of Music at Clacton County High School.He is delighted to be working with Colne Valley again and looks forward to the many exciting concerts and the great summer tours!
